About American Drifter

American Drifter is a Southwestern/bohemian-style vintage clothing shop that resides in a 1940's house in Austin's South 1st Street dining/shopping district. It is a destination shopping-experience for local musicians, movie productions, stylists and tourists alike.

Est. in 2011 by stylist & film costumer Kristen Lucio out of her Miami home, American Drifter was created as a necessary means of purging her overgrown costume collection. In the beginning years, American Drifter was an online shop via the Etsy platform and a pop-up vendor at Miami Lincoln Rd. Flea Market.

After moving to LA, Chicago and New York City, Kristen transitioned from her career in the film industry to selling vintage full-time on the road during the summer/fall of 2013.

When not slinging vintage, Kristen spent her days interviewing and blogging about other vintage shop-owners, exploring local markets, touring towns and camping along the way at national parks. This all came quite naturally as she was a photojournalism major in her college years.

In 2014 Kristen landed back in her home state of Texas, continuing to sell vintage online and at local pop-ups such City Wide Vintage Sale and local music events with the goal of one day opening her own brick & mortar.

In 2019, the first American Drifter brick & mortar opened in Austin's East Side and later relocated after the pandemic to its current home in Central Austin.

When not at the shop, you can catch Kristen and her stylish staff at ACL Music Festival, Luck Reunion, Le Garage Sale and Two Step Inn. Please check out their Instagram profile to keep up with new product/events and happenings.
